OHIO — The National Weather Service (NWS) on Wednesday confirmed another tornado from the storms on Tuesday, Sept. 24 in Ohio, making the total tornado count 73 for the year.
Storms from remnants of Hurricane Helene swept the Buckeye State on Sept. 24, spurring flash flood warnings and tornado warnings in some areas.
The tornado in Lorain County Wednesday touched down, with a rating of EF-0. It tracked a quarter of mile, with peak winds of 75 mph, according to NWS. It also had a max width of 25 yards.
NWS said the tornado that hit in Preble County hit east of Eaton, and was defined as "weak."
There was an additional "weak" tornado in Hocking County. It began in Laurelville and ended in Sugar Grove, leaving mostly tree damage in its path. NWS rated the storm as an EF-0, with a maximum wind speeds of 70 mph.
The storms on that day also broke a few records. In Cincinnati, the city reported a record rainfall amount of 2.03 inches, breaking the old daily record of 1.87 inches that was set in 1972.
Dayton also reported a record rainfall amount of 1.50 inches that day, breaking the old daily record of 1.15 inches set in 1945, according to NWS Wilmington.
