OHIO — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources opened a new Haiku Trail this week, making it the second one in the state.

This trail is located in Van Buren State Park, and the other one is in Hueston Woods State Park. The new trail features 20 poems along Van Buren State Parks' Lakeshore Trail, which includes views of the lakes and beaches. The 20 haikus were chosen out of 150 submitted by those who live in the area.

“This is a perfect combination of community passion and appreciating natural all wrapped up in one trail,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz in a release. “Writing and reading poetry is all about inspiration and that’s what I want people to feel and appreciate when they walk through this trail. It’s extra special that the community played an important role in writing these haikus."

Donations to the Ohio State Parks Foundation helped construct the trail, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources said.
