COLUMBUS, Ohio — Officials said crews are continuing to battle a fire at Columbus Auto Shredding on Alum Creek Drive, which started shortly after midnight Friday morning.

Firefighters are on the scene at the three-alarm fire, and no hazardous conditions were being picked up in the area, but people with respiratory health issues have been asked to stay inside.

The cause of the fire is unknown and no injuries have been reported.

Battalion Chief Jeffrey Geitter said the fire is under control but not contained as of this afternoon. There are approximately 150 firefighters on the scene and the division is rotating crews because of the heat.

Columbus Division of Fire said there is little grass around the area and do not fear it spreading. The fire remains only at Columbus Auto Shredding.

Many roads surrounding the auto scrapyard were closed. The Columbus Division of Fire is asking residents to avoid the area.

The smoke can be seen from miles away.
