CLEVELAND — University Hospitals (UH) MacDonald Women’s Hospital, an extension of UH Cleveland Medical Center, announced the re-establishment of Level 2 special care nursery services at UH TriPoint Medical Center. These services provide care for maternity and newborn babies that require more than a level one care unit.

 What You Need To Know
  • Special level 2 care nursery services are reestablished at UH TriPoint Medical Center

  • These services are now available to families in Lake and Ashtabula counties, as well as neighboring communities

  • The development occurred as a result of the hospital’s decision to integrate maternity services at TriPoint last year

“This means more families can stay close to home for advanced care. When a baby is born prematurely and needs support, our enhanced services at TriPoint will ensure they receive the necessary care without long-distance travel,” said Patti DePompei, president of UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s and MacDonald Women’s hospitals.

The development occurred as a result of the hospital’s decision to integrate maternity services at TriPoint last year. These services are now available to families in Lake and Ashtabula counties, as well as neighboring communities.

The new nursery is equipped with advance medical equipment, such as incubators and ventilators, to provide advanced monitoring for newborns. Larger rooms were also designed to facilitate multiple services that allow moms to labor, deliver, recover and spend postpartum in the same room. The space also allows overnight accommodations for families. The approach is to foster mother-baby bonding and support breastfeeding practices.

“Being part of the University Hospitals network means we adhere to the same high standards of quality and evidence-based care for mothers and newborns,” said Jennifer Carpenter, chief nursing officer of UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s and UH MacDonald Women’s hospitals. “Our goal is to provide a safe and beautiful delivery experience for both mom and baby.”
