OHIO — The state's annual report cards for 2023-24 have been released, recognizing districts for their achievements and ranking their performances.
Schools are evaluated under several categories including achievement, progress, gap closing, early literacy, graduation and readiness for college, career, workforce and military readiness. Districts and schools are ranked on a five-star system with ranking in increments of half-star measurements.
In the 2024 report cards, nearly 90% of districts met state expectations for performance. The state said districts meeting three-star rankings and above meet its marks. However, some still came short, ranking at 2.5 stars or below.
While most districts only just missed the three-star ranking, Jefferson Township Local had the lowest overall star rankings at 1.5. Its performance index score was 42.
The index measures the "level of achievement of every student, not just whether they score a proficient level on the tests," the department said, referring to results for students in third grade through high school on the Ohio State Tests.
Among the five-star districts, several schools had performance index scores at 100 or above including: Fort Loramie Local, Marion Local, Solon City, Versailles Exempted Village, Chagrin Falls Exempted Village and Rocky River City.
