OHIO — The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that 15 fatalities occurred in traffic accidents during the Labor Day reporting period.

The Labor Day reporting period began Friday, Aug. 30 at 12 a.m. and ended Monday, Sept. 2 at 11:59 p.m.

Out of the 15 people who lost their lives, seven were unbelted. OSHP has a zero tolerance policy when enforcing Ohio’s safety belt law. In Ohio, every driver and front seat passenger must wear a seat belt. Troopers issued more than 2,000 safety belt and child safety seat citations. 

Troopers made 378 arrests for impaired driving and 50 for drug-related charges. OHSP responded to 519 crashes during the reporting period and made 25,674 traffic contacts.
