COLUMBUS. Ohio — Columbus police said its planning to hold an anonymous gun buy-back event for the community.
The event is held "no questions asked" and people can bring their rifles, assault rifles, shotguns and handguns to redeem for a giftcard on Sept. 14.
"We know that every gun we take off the street is going to make our children, our seniors and our officers safer," Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said of the second annual buy-back event.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Franklin University Phillips Hall parking lot, 303 S. Grant Avenue, people can drive up with their guns unloaded and placed in a plastic bag, paper bag or box. Guns should be placed unloaded in the trunk in one of the listed containers when driving up to exchange it.
Columbus police said there is no limit on the amount of firearms turned in. Giftcards will be given based on the number of guns in a car, not the number of people. This means more than one person can ride in the car with guns to donate.
As an amnesty program, no identification is required from those donating guns.
The event is first come, first serve for cash giftcards and other giveaways. While accepted, no giveaways will go to those who bring antique, non-working, replica or 3D printed firearms to the event.
