COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus City Schools has announced that they are putting new safety measures in place for this school year, according to a post on the district’s website.

They say these security measures will be in place as they begin the fall sports season, including the first football game Friday night.

The district says that spectators and visitors—at most locations—will enter through the same location “via the EVOLV High-Speed Weapons Detection Systems,” helped by safety and security specialists.

“Students must provide their school ID; a parent or adult guardian must accompany middle school students; restrictions on bag size, no larger than 5x8 as in the past, and no strollers,” the school’s website reads. “New this year is there will be no admission or purchase of tickets after the end of the third quarter. Spectators are prohibited from re-entering after leaving the facility.”

The district asks for cooperation and understanding despite the changes they say they know might be inconvenient.

“Your role in adhering to these measures is crucial and we value your contribution to our collective safety,” the website reads. “Please remember, good security is never convenient, but it is always necessary.”
