OHIO — Former Cincinnati Reds first basemen Joey Votto has announced his retirement on his Instagram.

Votto, 40, played 17 seasons in the MLB, all with the Reds. He won NL MVP in 2010 and was a six-time NL All-Star.

In 2,056 games, Votto boasted a .294 batting average and 356 home runs. 

The Reds selected him in the second-round of the 2002 MLB Draft.
