AKRON, Ohio — Heavy rain Thursday evening left many roadways flooded in Akron and other areas of northeast Ohio.

Akron city officials said all roadways have reopened, and Akron's 311 call center was open for residents to call and report issues.

At the peak of the flooding, Akron closed off several roads Thursday night including:

  • Merriman Valley area including Merriman Rd, N. Portage Path, Sand Run Parkway, and Weathervane Lane.
  • W. Market St. near Elmdale Ave
  • Mull Ave near the roundabout
  • Vernon Odom Blvd & S Hawkins Ave
  • Storer Ave

Ohio Department of Transportation cameras also show severe flooding on I-76 through Barberton at Summit Road during the flooding.

"We would like to thank all of the agencies and city departments who assisted during the flooding last night," Orrville Police Department said on its Facebook page. "We also want to express our appreciation for our community members who were helping and taking care of each other. That is what community is all about!"

Officials remind drivers not to drive through flooded roads.

“Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” the National Weather Service said in its flash flood warnings. “Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.”
