COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Transportation Security Administration said there were three firearms found at John Glenn Columbus International Airport in five days at security checkpoints.
The most recent firearm was found on Monday. It brings the total to 28 firearms confiscated so far this year at the airport.
“Individuals who own firearms should familiarize themselves with regulations regarding where their weapons can and cannot be carried,” Ohio TSA Federal Security Director Don Barker said. “As we continue to see increased summer travel volumes, we encourage everyone to prepare for the screening experience and not bring prohibited items, which increase risks and delays for all passengers.”
At John Glenn, 55 firearms were stopped in 2023.
Nationally, TSA intercepted 3,269 firearms at airport security checkpoints for the first half of this year. TSA said the penalty for bringing weapons to the airport can reach as high as $14,950.
"Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms in checked baggage if they are unloaded, packed separately from ammunition in a locked hardback case and declared at the airline check-in counter," John Glenn said in a release. "Firearm possession laws vary by state and locality. Travelers should check for firearm laws in the jurisdictions they are flying to and from."
