COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources this week recognized Ohioans who have dedicated their time to the conservation and protection of Ohio's natural resources. 

Seven residents in total were inducted into the Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame. Additionally, six people were given the Cardinal Award.

  • Those top spots were chosen by a panel made up of ODNR employees

  • ODNR will accept nominations for the 2025 class of Hall of Fame/Cardinal Awards next spring/early summer

“The Hall of Fame honors people who have made conservation their lifetime mission,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz in a release. “We want to recognize the decades of work and stewardship our new Hall of Fame members have provided for the benefit of all Ohioans. We hope that this inspires future generations to continue this amazing work.”

The Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame was created in 1966, and with today's inductions, 193 Ohioans have received the honor. 

New inductees are as follows:

  • Michael Budzik
  • Leon Mertz
  • Nancy Stranahan
  • Peg VanVleet
  • Milton Brent, award posthumously
  • Rev. Pascal Bright, awarded posthumously
  • Emmett Conway, Jr., awarded posthumously

The Cardinal Award winners include: 

  • Glen Alexander
  • Linda Allen
  • José Fernández
  • Roy Kroll
  • Roger Osborne
  • Elmer Heyob Jr., awarded posthumously
