AKRON, Ohio — Starting Tuesday, visitors at the Valley View Area of Cascade Metro Park will have more activities to enjoy.

Park officials implemented new amenities at the area, including a kayak/canoe access point to the Cuyahoga River, a barn shelter, a Nature Play area, new trails and more gender-neutral restrooms.

Two new trails — the Missing Link (1.1 miles) and the Prather (1 mile) — will open to the public Tuesday. A third trail, called the Honeywell Link, will be added in the future, park officials said.

The new amenities are the latest addition since the Valley View Area was acquired by the park district in 2016. Upgrades have included restoration of one mile of the Cuyahoga River, as well as 200 acres of park land.

The Summit Metro Parks manages more than 15,000 acres in 16 parks, three nature centers and more than 150 miles of trails.
