WARREN, Ohio — A plane crash at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station killed three people Friday evening, Ohio State Highway Patrol officials said.

OSHP’s Warren Post, which is investigating the incident, received a call about a crash near Route 11 and King Graves Road in Trumbull County at 7:09 p.m. Friday.

“Troopers arrived on scene and discovered a fixed wing multi-engine aircraft had crashed near one of the runways,” OSHP said in a news release. “A mechanical failure is suspected and the aircraft was reported as attempting to make an emergency landing prior to the crash.”

OSHP officials said the Federal Aviation Administration has been contacted and will be conducting its own independent investigation.

The OSHP officers are receiving assistance from the Howland Police Department, Vienna Police Department, Trumbull County Sheriff Office and the Vienna Fire Department.
