GREENE COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health is hosting a no-cost health care services event for Green County residents, and residents of neighboring counties regardless of income.

The 2024 GuardCare: Warriors for Health event takes place in August through a partnersip between ODH, Greene County Public HEalth and the Ohio National Guard.

“GuardCare is a wonderful program that brings a wide variety of critical health services to Ohioans who may not otherwise receive them,” said ODH Director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff in a news release. “We are proud to be a partner in such an important effort.”

The event begins Saturday, Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and resumes Sunday, Aug. 11 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Greene County Career Center, 532 Innovation Dr., Xenia, OH. It will offer a multitude of health services including vaccinations, dental care and health screenings.

“All of these health services will be at no cost to everyone – you will not be asked to pay anything, nor asked to provide insurance information,” said Greene County Health Commissioner Melissa Howell. “It’s a no-cost healthcare weekend for residents of Greene and surrounding counties.”

Other services offered also include: 

  • Breastfeeding consultations
  • Car seat checks (including car seat giveaways)
  • Child development screenings
  • Cribs for Kids® (including cribette giveaways)
  • Dental (exams, fillings and extractions)
  • Dolly Parton Imagination Library Registration
  • Drug Take Back Station (provided by the GC Sheriff's Office)
  • Health & Resource Fair
  • Hearing screenings
  • Lab work
  • Mammograms
  • Medicaid & ACA Enrollment
  • Mental health screenings & consultations
  • Narcan kits
  • Nutrition consultation & education
  • Physical therapy
  • Sports physicals & wellness exams
  • Vaccines for all ages.
  • Vision (exams, glasses fabricated on site)

In 1995, Congress gave the National Guard the ability to help communities who were medically underserved across the country, creating a military medical care distribution service known today as GuardCare. This weekend will be the first GuardCare event since 2019.

Greene County Public Health estimates between 800 to 1,400 people will be in attendance, according to the news release.
