AKRON, Ohio — This year's 86th annual International Soap Box Derby is underway at Derby Downs in Akron with hundreds of children in town competing for the 2024 World Championships.

They competed in derbies from around the country in order to qualify for the championship Saturday. Ahead of that major event, you have "Race Week," which Scott Taylor, the president and CEO of the International Soap Box Derby, said is like a big family reunion for the organization he said thrives thanks to its volunteers.

"It's exciting to see a lot of the folks come together, and they're doing it for the kids," Taylor said. "It’s all about the kids.”

Here are some photos from Tuesday.
