CLEVELAND — Unless you’ve been living under a piece of Kryptonite the last few weeks, you’re probably aware the new Superman movie is being filmed in downtown Cleveland.
While the movie brings interest and excitement to the city, it also brings something else: road closures. The City of Cleveland has released the schedule for which roads will be closed when for the production.
- On Friday, July 12, there will be a westbound closure of Euclid Avenue between East 6th and East Roadway. Additionally, there will be a full road closure of West Mall Drive between Rockwell Avenue and 1345 West Mall Drive.
- On Saturday, July 13, and Sunday, July 14, there will again be a westbound closure of Euclid Avenue between East 6th and East Roadway.
- On Monday, West Mall Drive will be closed between Rockwell Avenue and 1345 West Mall Drive, in addition to East 3rd Street between Superior and Rockwell avenues. Westbound Euclid Avenue between East 6th and East Roadway will also be closed again.
- That same westbound portion of Euclid Avenue will be impacted from July 17-20.
The release from this city notes that some of these closures could last for several hours, while others could be intermittent. They note that there will be signage with more information.
“Expect additional traffic notices as filming continues and please note that these dates may change based on weather,” the release reads.
The character of Superman has a close tie to the City of Cleveland.
According to Case Western Reserve University’s encyclopedia of Cleveland history, the character was created in the 30s by Glenville High School students Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
