CLEVELAND — An Air Quality Alert is in effect for parts of northeast Ohio until midnight Monday night, according to the National Weather Service, as temperatures are set to heat back up this week. 

The alert affects Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit counties. The alert was issued due to unhealthy levels of ground level ozone, which means the air could affect sensitive groups, such as children, the elderly and those with breathing issues. 

The NWS urges the public to monitor outdoor activity and check air quality readings at AirNow.gov. The NWS also gave these tips to reduce air pollution:

• Drive less: bike, walk, use transit, work from home or combine trips
• Don't idle and turn off your engine
• Refill your tank after sunset
• Wait to mow the lawn
