CINCINNATI — A visitor at Kings Island was struck by one of its coasters at approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

In a statement, the amusement park said the male guest entered a restricted, fenced off area of the Banshee roller coaster and was believed to have been hit by the ride.

The Banshee is the world's longest steel inverted roller coaster, according to King's Island, at 4,124 feet long. The ride has seven inversions, a 167 foot lift hill; 150 foot first drop and multiple loops. The coaster reaches speeds of up to 68 mph.

"The park's safety and first aid personnel responded immediately to the situation and contacted local emergency responders," the park said in a news release. "The guest was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center."

Banshee remains closed while park personnel and local authorities conduct an investigation.

A press release from the City of Mason Police confirms that police and fire were called to the scene of a 38-year-old man downed inside a restricted area at the park at the Banshee ride. He sustained a "critical injury."

They confirm that they are working with the park to investigate.
