OHIO — During the extreme heat this week, zoos around Ohio are making sure animals stay cool.

From using iceblocks to sprinklers and other tactics, take a look at how animals are having some fun in the hot sun.

At the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, elephants took a dip in the water to beat the heat.

"We make sure that the animals have access to indoor areas and also provide lots of water," the Cincinnati Zoo said.

"Our tigers are Sumatran tigers and they are native to the island of Sumatra in Indonesia," the Akron Zoo said. "They are well adapted to this heat, but that doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy some fun enrichment to cool down! Our female tiger, Sumini, went fishing for an ice block made of ice, blood and chunks of meat. (Tigers are one of two big cats that enjoy swimming.)"

"Our female snow leopard, Milja, enjoyed laying on an ice block before the temps got too high," Akron Zoo said. "The snow leopards have access to go inside all day as they choose."

"Our Andean condor juvenile, Luca, was enjoying an ice block with some scents sprinkled on it," Akron Zoo said. "There is also paper for him to rip up, which helps him showcase a natural behavior of ripping apart carcasses."

"One of our keepers was refilling Noel the alpaca’s pool with the hose," Akron Zoo said. "While filling the pool, she was spraying Noel and helping him cool off. He was so appreciative, that he was giving her alpaca kisses!"

"Our flamingos were enjoying a mister," Akron Zoo said.
