The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office on Monday identified the man who died as Lateris Cook from Akron.

“We ask that anyone present when the shooting happened, to reach out and speak with police,” Akron Mayor Shammas Malik said in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “Even a small detail can help.”

The wounded ranged in age from 19 to 43, Police Chief Brian Harding said. No arrests have been made.

According to Malik, preliminary evidence includes at least 35 shell casings from different types of guns, two handguns recovered from the scene and shell casings from a rifle.

Cleveland Clinic Akron General received nine patients total from the shooting, according to a news release.

“One is in critical condition in our Intensive Care Unit following surgery,” the hospital said Sunday evening. “One has been admitted to a regular floor after surgery, and four more were admitted with injuries. Three were treated in our Emergency Department for non-life-threatening injuries and were released.”

Mike Bernstein of Summa Health Akron Hospital said they received 15 patients from the shooting and that 13 suffered non life-threatening injuries.

“Several are in the process of being discharged or have been discharged. One patient is in critical condition and one was deceased on arrival. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” said Bernstein.

On Sunday, Democratic Congresswoman Shontel Brown, OH-11, released a statement offering prayers for the victims and their families.

“The pain of gun violence continues to be felt across Northeast Ohio and it’s sickening to see another mass shooting so close to home. People can’t live like this, fearful they won’t be safe at a block party, church, school or work. While we await more details on this shooting, it is abundantly clear we have a national problem – and have had one for decades,” Brown’s statement reads.

“We need comprehensive gun safety legislation to strengthen background checks, close loopholes that keep allowing dangerous individuals to purchase guns, ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and more,” the statement continues. “We’ve got to make sure the new Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which I voted for, is fully implemented, so we can crack down on gun trafficking, and we’ve got to provide more resources to local communities wracked by gun violence.”

During a press conference on Sunday, Malik announced a $12,500 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and successful prosecution of a suspect.

Shortly after, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) offered an additional reward of up to $10,000 for information, raising the total reward money to $22,500, according to Malik.
