COLUMBUS, Ohio — A recent report from NerdWallet, a personal finance company, released its report of the top 10 best metro areas for people who are self-employed and freelancers.

The company looked at recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau and state-level data from the Tax Foundation to get its rankings. NerdWallet said the top metro areas that are beneficial for those types of workers, such as where a significant percentage of the workforce is self-employed already, rent is relatively affordable, unemployment is low, worker mobility is high and state income taxes are relatively low.

One Ohio city made the top 10. Here is the ranking: 

  1. Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro-Franklin, Tennessee
  2. North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota, Florida
  3. Chattanooga, Tennessee
  4. Knoxville, Tennessee
  5. Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos, Texas
  6. Lancaster, Pennsylvania
  7. Boise City, Idaho
  8. Columbus, Ohio
  9. Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury, Connecticut
  10. Portland-South Portland, Maine
