OHIO — A recent report from the lawn care service company LawnStarter ranked last year's dirtiest cities, and some in Ohio made it on the list.

  • Additionally, Cincinnati was the No. 1 city for the highest tonnage of waste in landfills per 100,000 residents, whereas Cleveland tied with five other states as having the least amount per 100,000 residents

The report compared 152 of the United States' biggest cities, focusing on four categories: pollution, living conditions, infrastructure and consumer satisfaction. Initially, the report had compiled around 200 cities to compare with, but due to insufficient data, the number was cut down. 

Here's how Ohio cities ranked:

  • No. 42: Dayton
  • No. 50: Cincinnati
  • No. 57: Cleveland
  • No. 65: Akron
  • No. 67: Toledo
  • No. 137: Columbus

Additionally, Cincinnati was the No. 1 city for the highest tonnage of waste in landfills per 100,000 residents, whereas Cleveland tied with five other states as having the least amount per 100,000 residents. 

The top five cities listed as the dirtiest in America are as follows:

  1. Houston, Texas
  2. Newark, New Jersey
  3. San Bernardino, California
  4. Detroit, Michigan
  5. Jersey City, New Jersey

The top five cities that were the least dirty were:

  1. Virginia Beach, Virginia
  2. Sunnyvale, California
  3. Norfolk, Virginia
  4. Des Moines, Iowa
  5. Fremont, California
