OHIO — Gov. Mike DeWine, during his State of the State address earlier this week, named Ohio's teachers of the year for 2024.

The teachers came from 10 counties across the state including Ottawa, Preble, Hamilton, Brown, Stark, Portage, Cuyahoga, Seneca, Franklin and Clark. 

"A good teacher has the power to fundamentally change the course of a child’s life," DeWine said during his address. "I’m sure that each of us can recall at least one great teacher who inspired us or motivated us and really changed our lives."

The Buckeye State's teachers of the year are:

  • Joseph Miller, Port Clinton City Schools
  • Judy Brown, National Trail Local Schools 
  • Timothy Hubbard, Deer Park Community City Schools 
  • Salli Swisher, Fayetteville Perry Local Schools 
  • Jennifer Best, Fairless Local Schools 
  • Jennifer Kinkoph, Aurora City Schools 
  • Shanti' Coaston, Westlake City Schools 
  • Amy DeRodes, Old Fort Local Schools 
  • Mark Lowrie, Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools 
  • Steve Kucinski, Dublin City Schools 
  • Andrea Novicky, Springfield Local Schools
