OHIO — In a partnership with Ohio’s Girl Scout councils, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be working with the Girl Scouts to host tree planting events throughout this month and next, according to an ODNR press release.

“Planting trees is a vital component to the conservation work we do in the state, from revitalizing abandoned mine lands to creating more wetlands for H2Ohio,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz said in the release. “We enjoy working with Girl Scouts as they learn how to become future leaders in environmental stewardship.”

The release highlights an initiative launched by the Girl Scouts of the USA in 2021 called the Girl Scout Tree Promise, which looks to plant 5 million trees in 5 years and “to protect and honor new and existing trees.”

The ODNR highlights that they worked alongside the Girl Scouts last year in planting upward of 53,000 trees. And their goals only get higher, as they seek to see 250,000 trees planted in Ohio by the Girl Scouts by 2026, according to the release.
