ENGLEWOOD, Ohio — The Miami County Health Department confirmed another measles case Friday, making it the second in the county and fourth overall in Ohio this year.
Health officials also warned others could have been exposed to the virus. Anyone who visited the Englewood Kroger Marketplace, located at 855 Union Blvd., between 12:45 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday was exposed, according to a press release.
Measles can live in the air for up to two hours. Officials urge those who may have been exposed to contact Public Health - Montgomery County to fill out a form and discuss next steps.
On Thursday, Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff urged Ohioans to get vaccinated to prevent historical diseases, including measles, from spreading. In 2022, Ohio had an outbreak of measles that resulted in 36 of 85 cases requiring hospitalization.
While Ohio has only had four cases so far, including the ones in Montgomery and Richland counties, Vanderhoff said there is a current outbreak in the U.K. that could pose a threat.
"International travel means an outbreak in one country can reach another country," Vanderhoff said.
Vanderhoff said the common feature with measles cases is that people haven't received the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine.
