COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus woman made her first court appearance in Franklin County Municipal Court Thursday for her arraignment on charges in connection to the death of a 5-year-old boy she was the legal custodian of.
Pammy Maye faces murder, kidnapping and child endangerment charges, according to court documents, and is accused of killing Darnell Taylor, 5, who an Amber Alert was issued for on Valentine's Day.
The prosecutor said Maye had no previous identifiable record, but had a history of mental health issues, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
The judge issued a $4 million bond for Maye after the prosecutor said Maye told officials during questioning that she suffocated Darnell in her home and where they could locate his body.
The kidnapping charge had a $1 million cash assurity while the murder charge had a $3 million cash assurity for the bond.
Maye's preliminary date hearing is set for March 1.
Maye's husband made a 911 call on Feb. 14 stating, "my wife just killed our foster child," according to call records. He said Maye drove off in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. An Amber Alert was then issued by authorities. The Jeep was recovered in Brooklyn, Ohio, later that morning.
Officials have not been able to contact her husband.
