OHIO — The CDC has updated its food safety alert concerning a Salmonella infection outbreak, urging people to avoid eating Busseto brand charcuterie sampler from Sam’s Club and Fratelli Beretta brand antipasto gran beretta from Costco.
The state-by-state breakdown on the CDC’s website shows Ohio has the most people sick with Salmonella at 11, more than double that of the second-highest Washington (5). In total, 47 cases have been reported across 22 states.
The CDC notes that numbers may not be accurate as many people with Salmonella recover without medical attention, and their illness is not reported.
According to a press release, the investigation is still ongoing. The CDC recommends anyone who owns the potentially contaminated products throw them away and clean any surfaces they touched. While most people will recover from Salmonella without medical intervention in a matter of a week, the CDC notes that a more severe illness may occur in young children and those with weaker immune systems.
The CDC recommends monitoring yourself for symptoms of severe Salmonella, which include:
- Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
- Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving
- Bloody diarrhea
- So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
- Signs of dehydration including not urinating much, having a dry mouth/throat or feeling dizzy when standing
The CDC recommends anyone who experiences these Salmonella symptoms call their doctor.
