CLEVELAND — Cleveland's Chief Director of Public Safety, Karrie Howard, declared a temporary snow emergency parking ban for the city Tuesday.

The ban is from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Stopping, standing and parking on sreets posted with red and white signs is prohibited. Parking on any streets marked as a through street or highway is also prohibited.

All Cleveland Public Library locations closed Tuesday because of the weather and waste collection is delayed for a day, according to the city's X account, formerly known as Twitter.

"Parking is prohibited on designated Snow Emergency streets, which are identified as necessary for transportation, the movement of food and fuel supplies, medical care, fire, health and police protection and other vital facilities of the city," a statement from the city said. "Significant snowfall can cause streets to become congested and impassable."

The city encourages citizens to avoid parking on city streets to allow snowplows to clear snow and to avoid bottleneck or gridlock situations which can hamper emergency response.

Vehicles in violation are subject to citation and towing.
