The quintessential lyrics to the songs of Frozen are sung throughout the auditorium at Indian Hill High School.
And for the main characters, senior Kaylie Withers as Anna and fellow senior Makenna Peterson as Elsa, the show is a dream come true in their final year.
“When I was a kid, I always looked up to Elsa," Peterson said. "I was like 'Oh my gosh I want to be her when I grow up.' So it was really exciting to be able to be in this show. And once the cast came out, and I was like 'Oh my gosh I’m Elsa, that’s crazy! This is my childhood dream.'”
While rehearsals are ongoing, the cast is gearing up for full costumes soon to bring the entire show to life.
“I’m wearing this at the beginning of the show," Withers said of a skirt. But it has this amazing hoop skirt under it. And it is this very fun, flowy type skirt that I get to wear during the show and it’s so fun to get to work with.”
Even involving young versions of their characters, like fourth-grade student Val Romero Melo as young Elsa, who is looking forward to opening night.
“I’m going to be excited for doing the play," Romero Melo said. "It’s going to be really exciting. All my friends and some of my teachers are actually going to be there.”
But what makes this show even more special is that Indian Hill is the only school in Ohio chosen to perform Frozen, one of 51 schools across the nation chosen out of 300. For these budding actresses, it means the show has extra meaning.
“Being a senior, it’s my last show, so it’s really exciting to be able to do this kind of show," Peterson said. "And also the stakes, it’s also very exciting to be a part of the only school in Ohio to be able to do this show. So I’m really, really excited for this.”
“It is so exciting," Withers said. "Being a senior I’ve been able to watch all the shows and growing up, I’ve always wanted to be the lead in the show and just to be able to be a part of such a special show and I think Frozen is that show for us this year.”
The performances begin Saturday December ninth, with a total of six shows over two weekends. Tickets are on sale now for the show.
