OHIO — The Ohio Wildlife Commission this week approved dates for the state's spring wild turkey hunting spring season.
During the spring 2024 hunting season, the statewide limit is one bearded turkey, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. More hunting and trapping regulation information can be found on the ODNR's website.
The dates are as follows:
- Statewide youth wild turkey season: April 13 and April 14, 2024
- South zone: April 20 through May 19, 2024 (all counties except the northeast zone)
- Northeast zone: April 27 through May 26, 2024 (this includes Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Trumbull counties)
As for the upcoming fall turkey hunting season, it'll be open to 70 counties between Oct. 14 through Nov. 12. It'll allow a permit-buying hunter to get one turkey of either sex, according to ODNR.
Last year's fall turkey hunting season had a harvest of 1,003, which was a 44% increase from 2021, according to ODNR.
Recently, Ohio announced its dates for different types of deer hunting. Archery deer hunting kicked off this past Saturday and will go until Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024. Gun hunters have a two-day youth season on Nov. 18 and Nov. 19, and there will be a seven-day gun season from Nov. 27 until Dec. 3. Additionally, there will be a two-day gun season on Dec. 16 and Dec. 17.
