OHIO — Ohio released its annual school report cards for 2022-23 Thursday, which evaluates schools under a variety of categories: achievement, progress, gap closing, early literacy, graduation and readiness for college, career, workforce and military readiness.
Starting last year, the state went by a different ranking system. Before then, it ranked schools on a letter-grade system, A-F. Now, it's a five-star rating system that includes the calculations from the categories above.
For each category, schools can get up to five stars, ranking in increments of half-star ratings, according to the Ohio Department of Education's website.
Using the ODE's performance ratings, here are the districts that got a one-star rating, and those that got five stars. ODE said those that got three or more stars achieved state standards.

Among the one-star schools, the East Cleveland City School District had the lowest performance index score with 45.3. The maximum performance index score is 108.8. However, it's an improvement from last year, in which the district scored 43.3, and an even bigger improvement from the 2020-21 school year, when the distrct had a 38.3 score.
The index measures the "level of achievement of every student, not just whether they score a proficient level on the tests," ODE said, referring to results for students in third grade through high school on the Ohio State Tests.
