OHIO — Week three of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Game of the Week takes us to Dublin and Hamilton.
Northeast and Central Ohio viewers will get Canton McKinley (1-1) at Dublin Coffman (2-0) with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. on Spectrum News 1 and the Spectrum News App.
It’s the second straight year the programs will meet, with the Shamrocks edging the Bulldogs (28-26) last year in Canton. The teams also played a home-in-home series in 2013 and 2014, with the hosts claiming victory in both contests.
Coffman has started the year with solid wins over Toledo St. John’s (24-0) and Centerville (22-14), while McKinley topped Warren Harding (33-14) in the season opener, before falling last week to a tough Avon squad (28-7).
Meanwhile, in Southwest Ohio, Ross and Northwest square off for the 21st straight year. Since 2003, it’s the Rams that own an 11-10 advantage, including a 41-7 win in the playoffs a year ago. It was revenge for the regular season, a game the Knights won (36-35).
Ross has won four of the previous five meetings, dating back to 2019. Northwest had a seven-game winning streak from 2012 through 2018.
Both teams are rebuilding and hoping a win can generate some momentum for 2023. The Rams fell to defending OHSAA Division IV state runner-up Wyoming, 16-12, to begin the year, before losing to Mt. Healthy in week two.
Northwest’s 0-2 start came at the hands of Wilmington and Indian Hill.
