CLEVELAND — Tuesday marks the beginning of early voting for Ohio's August election, in which voters will be making a decision on Issue 1.
Residents can view their registration at the Ohio Secretary of State's website. They call also call their local county board of elections.
Issue 1 aims to change the voting requirement to approve constitutional amendments to 60%. If approved, that means in order to amend the Ohio Constitution, it would require a 60% majority vote from voters. It would also require that 5% of electors in each of Ohio's counties to sign initiative petitions proposing a constitutional amendment.
In addition, it would still require signatures from 10% of electors who voted for governor in the past gubernatorial election.
If voted down, amending the Ohio Constitution would continue to require a simple majority of voters to approve the amendment, which is 50.01% of all Ohio voters.
