SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff's Office said Jason Conrad, the inmate who escaped Tuesday morning, was found and arrested on Wednesday.

Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree said Conrad was spotted after surveillance officers and an Ohio State Highway Patrol airplane spotted him near Aqueduct Street in Akron. He was arrested around 9:40 a.m.

The sheriff's office said at 8 a.m. Tuesday, a deputy transported inmate Jason Conrad to Summa Health on 1 Park West Dr. in Akron for a doctor's appointment. He had been handcuffed and was in a boot from a previous injury, according to the sheriff's office.

Once the deputy removed the inmate from the transport vehicle, the inmate was able to escape by running away after removing the boot. 

He previously had charges of willfully fleeing, possession of drugs, trafficking drugs and a parole violation. Fatheree said he faces an additional charge of escape. 

The sheriff's office said Akron police, the University of Akron Police, Summa police, OSHP troopers and the marshal's service assisted in the search for Conrad. He has been transported to the Summit County Jail.
