CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s planetarium invited the community to eclipse-themed planetarium shows on April 7, 8, and 9, 2023 in anticipation of next year's solar eclipse.

  •  The Cleveland Museum of Natural History will hold eclipse-themed planetarium shows on April 7, 8, and 9, 2023

  •  Cleveland is set to be in the path of totality during the April 8, 2024 eclipse

  •  Cleveland will not be in the path of totality again until 2444

  • All planetarium shows are included with museum general admission tickets

A total solar eclipse is set to occur on April 8, 2024, and Cleveland will lie within the path of totality. This means much of Cleveland will see four minutes of darkness in the middle of the afternoon as the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun. 

Cleveland is not set to be in the path of totality again until 2444.

During the shows, museum astronomers will explain why eclipses occur, describe totality of eclipses, and discuss safe methods for observing the solar eclipse.

According the the museum, these programs will be interactive and designed by the museum’s astronomy team. 

The Nathan and Fannye Shafran Planetarium was updated in fall of 2022, with updates including a software update, a repainted dome and new seating that allows for more customized and creative shows. 

All planetarium shows are included in general admission tickets.
