For the second time in three years and the eighth time overall, the Falcons are playing in the WNIT, but for the first time in school history, they are in the semifinals.
After beating Florida, 69-52, in the WNIT Great 8, BGSU advanced to host Columbia in the Fab 4.
Prior to defeating Florida, BGSU defeated Liberty at home in the first round, 87-80, defeated Green Bay on the road, 69-51, and defeated Memphis at the Stroh Center, 73-60.
The Falcons have an all-time record of 12-8 in the tournament as they welcome Columbia to the Stroh Center on Wednesday. BGSU is 10-5 all-time at home in the WNIT.
To make the Fab 4, Columbia defeated Harvard in the Great 8, 77-71.
Making it the farthest they ever have in the WNIT is not the only history the Falcons are chasing.
The Stroh Center was packed with 3,788 people when the Falcons took on Florida on Monday. The attendance was the third-largest for a BGSU women’s basketball game in Stroh Center history, and the sixth-largest all-time crowd for a Falcon home game.
With 31 wins, a win versus Columbia would have BGSU breaking the program and Mid-American Conference records for wins in a season. The only other MAC team to win 31 games was the 2006-07 Bowling Green team that advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
If the Falcons win, they would play the winner of Washington and Kansas in the WNIT Championship.
Bowling Green plays Wednesday at 6 p.m. and can be watched online on ESPN3.
