The Division of Wildlife manages 750,000 acres of diverse wildlife areas and 2 million acres of water, the department said.

Since the Ohio Fish Commission began in 1873, the Division of Wildlife celebrates 150 years of professional wildlife and fish conservation. In 1913, the first requirement was to purchase a hunting license. In 1925, a resident fishing license was included in the regulations.

Residential fishing licenses are $25 and are valid for one year from the purchase date. They also can be purchased up to 30 days prior to the expiration date. A fishing license is required to fish in Ohio public waters for anyone 16 years and older.

For the 2023-24 season, resident hunting licenses are $19 for adults and $10 for youth. Hunting licenses are valid after purchase through Feb. 29, 2024. Carrying a valid hunting license to hunt or trap in Ohio is required regardless of age.
