CLEVELAND — Members of the Glenville community in Cleveland celebrated the life and legacy of late U.S. congressional representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones. 
 

On Tuesday, Patrick Henry School was renamed to Stephanie Tubbs Jones School.

Earlier this summer, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District board voted to rename the school in her honor. 

The CMSD board also voted to rename two other schools that had been named after individuals with a documented history of being slaveholders, or oppressing women, people of color, and other minorities. Patrick Henry, a Founding Father, owned slaves.

More than 200 people attended Tuesday's ribbon cutting ceremony and program. 

Jones, who died of a brain aneurysm in 2008, was the first Black woman from Ohio elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. She was also the first Black person and first woman to serve as chief prosecutor for Cuyahoga County. 

Jones was raised in the Glenville neighborhood and attended public schools.
