  • Official dedication will be Oct. 22

The university's Board of Trustees approved a request to name Peden Stadium's football field Frank Solich Field, the school announced Thursday. Solich is the winningest football coach in Mid-American Conference history.

“Coach Frank Solich has left a lasting legacy at Ohio University, impacting hundreds of student-athletes, coaches, staff members, and Bobcats across the globe,” said Ohio University President Hugh Sherman.

“He brought sustained success to our football program and raised the national profile of our University. We are honored to recognize these accomplishments by naming our field, Frank Solich Field.”

The name change will be in effect starting with the home opener on Sept. 3, though the official dedication is scheduled for Oct. 22.

It also wouldn't have happened without a push from supporters of the football program.

“Through his leadership and sustained success, Coach Solich has transformed not only the football program, but our relationship with supporters of the program,” said Ohio University Foundation president Nico Karagosian. "Several donors contributed funds to honor Coach Solich’s legacy since his retirement, and we believe naming the field is a great way to honor him.”

Solich retired in 2021 after 16 seasons, having led the Bobcats to a 115-82 record over that span. The team also made 11 bowl appearances, winning five.

Solich was replaced by offensive coordinator Tim Albin, who went 3-9 in his first season.
