COLUMBUS, Ohio — Juan “Cucho” Hernandez already is making and impact in Major League Soccer just two matches into his MLS career.

What You Need To Know

  • Juan “Cucho” Hernandez became the seventh-most expensive signing in MLS history on June 20

  • Cucho came off the bench in his first two matches with the Crew

  • He scored once versus Chicago and twice versus D.C.

Hernandez, 23, who broke the transfer fee record for the Columbus Crew and became the seventh-most expensive signing in MLS history on June 20, made history again becoming the first Crew player to score in his first two MLS appearances.

He did so coming off the bench in both instances.

Hernandez scored his first goal for Columbus, a game winner, July 9 in the 83rd minute as the Crew defeated the Chicago Fire, 3-2.

He put the Crew ahead twice July 13 versus D.C. United, first scoring in the 62nd minute and again in the 82nd minute as the match ended in a 2-2 tie.

After not securing the win versus D.C. United, Cucho told MLSsoccer.com he was upset with the result.

“I’m irritated,” Hernandez said. “It wasn’t the result we wanted, and I thought we deserved to win. But one point is OK and we’ll need to think about the next game now.”

The Crew’s next match is the Hell is Real Derby versus FC Cincinnati on Sunday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. during Heineken Rivalry Week.

Hernandez's performance in his first matches were good enough to get him named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 20.
