CINCINNATI — FC Cincinnati midfielder Luciano Acosta was recognized for his part of FCC’s historic season by being named the Major League Soccer Player of the Month for June.

According to MLS, it is his second time winning the award and the first since Sept. 2018 when he played for D.C. United.

The Argentina native tied for the most goals in the league in June, scoring one goal and completing three assists in 137 minutes of play. He was the only MLS player in June to have three assists in the month, after having two against New York City FC on June 29.

He also scored a goal against NYCFC and had one assist against Orlando City on June 24.

With efforts like Acosta's, FCC already set its record for points in a season (25) and wins in a season (7), and secured the club’s first unbeaten month in club history with a minimum of two matches played.

For his efforts in the latter part of the month, Acosta also was named as a bench player to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 17.

FCC Forward Brenner Souza da Silva joined Acosta on the team of the week, making the first team having scored the first hat-trick in Cincinnati’s history during the 4-4 draw against New York City FC.

Columbus Crew goalkeeper Eloy Room also was named to the team of the week’s first team after he made six saves in a 2-1 win at Toronto FC.

Crew Forward Jacen Russell-Rowe made the team of the week bench after completing two assists as the Crew defeated Toronto, where Russell-Rowe spent seven years in the academy program.
