OHIO — Giant Eagle issued a voluntary recall this week for its packages of apple slices and peanut butter that are sold in GetGo stores, including at locations in Ohio.

Officials made the recall in the wake of the Jif peanut butter recall nationwide amid salmonella concerns, which is the same peanut butter used in the packages.

Giant Eagle said the recall includes packages sold at GetGo stories in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana and West Virginia through May 13, and they expire May 29.

Giant Eagle officials said there have been no reports of contamination so far.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in children, those with weak immune systems and the elderly, according to Mayo Clinic.

As for the Jif recall, the products recalled include the lot codes 1274425–2140425.
