CLEVELAND — After the state warned Ohioans about the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, Cleveland Public Theater announced late Wednesday it's canceling the remaining performances for “Candlelight Hypothesis Workshop."

The Detroit-Shoreway group said members will be in touch with ticket holders about next steps. Those with questions can reach out directly to the box office at 216-631-2727, extension 501. While the group didn't confirm whether any of its members caught COVID-19, it said it made the decision out of an abundance of caution.

In Ohio, 87 of 88 counties are in the green on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's map, which is the low transmission rate for which the agency doesn't have mask recommendations.

The Ohio Hospital Association reported Wednesday hospitals had 607 COVID patients. A full report on case numbers will come Thursday afternoon. Over the past three weeks, the weekly average of deaths in Ohio declined 16%. However, cases rose in the state by more than 7,000 in same time period, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health.

Nationally, the seven-day average for new daily infections is around 94,000 — nearly three times more compared to a month ago, according to data from the CDC. Over the past two weeks, cases rose 60% in the U.S. The nation surpasses one million total COVID-19 deaths last week.
