AKRON, Ohio — Summit County Public Health will offer free COVID-19 booster shots on Tuesday, April 12 during a drive-thru vaccination clinic at the health-department office.

The clinic will run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1867 W. Market St. in West Akron. No appointment is necessary. Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine will be offered and masks are required.

So far, 336,396 Summit County residents are fully vaccinated with 176,905 receiving a booster, according to the health department COVID-19 dashboard.

Although the number of cases has dropped significantly since January, nearly 900 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Summit County in the last 60 days, according to the dashboard.

COVID boosters can be given four months after the first booster dose, the health department said.

To be eligible for the booster clinic:

  • residents must be 50 or older;
  • moderately or severely immunocompromised and be 12 or older for Pfizer or 18 or older for Moderna; or
  • must have received Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine for first shot and booster.

The health department recommends all residents — vaccinated and unvaccinated — continue to adhere to safe behaviors, including:

  • stay home if you’re sick, even with mild symptoms
  • limit your chances of exposure when interacting with others by maintaining six feet of distance from non-household members
  • wear a mask in public
  • wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • use hand sanitizer frequently
  • avoid touching your face
  • cover coughs and sneezes

Summit County’s positivity rate is 1.9%, down from 2% last week, according to the public health dashboard. The county is ranked No. 74 in the state  for positive cases, with 88 the best possible ranking.
