AKRON, Ohio — Just a Dad from Akron will celebrate its one-year anniversary this weekend, with a free, day-long event featuring clothing and merchandise giveaways.
The first anniversary party for Just a Dad from Akron will run from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 12 at 937 Kenmore Blvd. in Akron.
Since the launch of Just a Dad from Akron clothing line, owner Kenny Lambert has used a portion of his profits for free events and giveaways for the community. He has hosted many events at the store, giving away hundreds of free meals and handing out free shoes for kids.
He also has made it his mission to help troubled young people who are lured by drugs and alcohol, as Lambert was when he was a new father.
He has told his story often, hoping to inspire others to be positive role models for their children.
Several years ago, as new father, Lambert was saddled with addiction and had alienated his friends and family, he said. When he decided to turn his life around, Lambert went to meetings and volunteered at Kenmore’s First Glance, a youth center that helps young people facing all types of challenges.
Now, when hand-delivering merchandise ordered locally from his website, Lambert takes his young daughter, Amelia, along to meet customers.
The clothing line bears positive messages, such as “Be the change Akron needs,” “Believe in yourself” and “Let me see you smile.”
He thanked his supporters and volunteers in an online video, and thanked 4 Bros and a Sis Lemonade, a business founded by a young Ellet family, which Lambert has partnered with on several special events.
In the video, Lambert said the past year has had ups and downs.
“I appreciate everyone who is continuing to support us and without you in the community this would not be possible,” he said. “Just a Dad from Akron, the movement, all the work being done would not be possible without the community. You guys are what keeps me going.”
