CLEVELAND — The Ohio National Guard said it will close the mass COVID-19 testing site in Cleveland’s University Circle as cases drop in northeast Ohio.
Meanwhile, the National Guard said it is shifting its resources to southern Ohio.
In the last week, the National Guard has started staffing COVID-19 testing sites in Athens, Pomeroy and Jackson.
The National Guard said it served more than 25,000 patients since opening the Cleveland mass testing site Dec. 21. On its first day of operations, the testing site was overwhelmed by response and was forced to close the line hours ahead of time.
The state says it will continue testing for COVID-19 at the Cleveland site through Jan. 23.
Northeast Ohio has seen declining COVID-19 case rates, according to the Ohio Department of Health. The area has also seen a decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations. According to the Ohio Hospital Association, there has been a 22% drop in COVID-19 hospitalizations in northeast Ohio in the last week.
