  • The celebration is Jan. 15-17

It has come a long way since opening in 1869.

“About 64 years ago, we started selling our stuff and inviting people on to the farm,” said CEO Dan Young.

Before it was Young’s Jersey Dairy Farm, it belonged to the Young’s relatives.

“It wasn’t the last name of Young, it was Gerhart,” said Young. “They were relatives of ours, so twigs on a branch of a tree kind of thing.”

It takes approximately 300 people to power the farm during busy season, which is April to November. Young said after more than a century and a half, the community is what’s helping keep them open.

“The reason we’re still here is because we have a good relationship with our community,” Young said. “We’re not perfect, but we try to do a good job for them and they know it and they’ve been coming here for generations,” he said.

Young’s Dairy Farm makes its own cheese and has been making its own ice cream since 1981.

“It’s important because people know where it comes from, and we have more control over it that way,” said Young.

For its 153rd birthday, they’re offering some fun, themed discounts.

“We have sales, a buck-53 off, a dollar-53 off, get it? $1.53 years off cones, kids meals, cheeseburgers, cheddar cheese crispies,” said Young.

The celebration will last until Monday, Jan. 17.
