The Ohio Department of Agriculture and Ohio Department of Development are offering grants of up to $250,000. The grants are available to meat processors throughout the state.

Spectrum News 1 agriculture expert Andy Vance explained how the money can be used.

"The idea of the program is to help local meat processors go through and obtain new or upgraded machinery technological equipment, perhaps to expand or build new facilities, personnel training costs, things around expanding their ability to process and harvest locally-produced meat, which is something I think that's become more and more important to folks over the past two years," Vance said.

According to the Department of Development, "The business must own or operate a meat processing facility located in Ohio that was in operation as of July 1, 2021. The facility must provide processing services for livestock and/or poultry producers, and it must be a for-profit entity, such as a corporation, LLC, partnership, joint venture, or sole proprietor. The business also must be in good standing with the Ohio Secretary of State, the Ohio Department of Taxation, and any other governmental entity charged with regulating the business."
