DAYTON, Ohio - Residents from an Ohio city still recovering from tornadoes in 2019 are now headed to Kentucky to help tornado victims.
Nathan Prikkel is loading up his trailer and getting ready for a road trip from Dayton to western Kentucky.
“I thought, I’m already going down there, what’s it gonna hurt to throw more stuff in the trailer,” said Prikkel.
What’s inside the trailer isn’t stuff for him. The toiletries, clothes and food collected from friends are going to people who he says might just need it more than anyone right now.
“I know a lot of these people have lost family members lost pets lost friends, and that’s a lot to bare on your soul,” said Prikkel.
He’s been collecting donations for Kentucky tornado victims. He's taking in supplies at the car shop he runs in downtown Dayton, where he also works as a mechanic.
He says he and four friends plan to bring their services to Kentucky too.
“If you need your car flipped back over, we’ll help you flip your car back over, if you need it started up, we’ll help you start it up, if you got a tree down and you can’t get to your property, we’ll help you cut it up,” said Prikkel.
There was a time in Dayton in 2019, where people in this community were the ones in need.
“It was very close to some of my family members. It knocked down the church I went to in childhood, the grocery store I went to in childhood,” said Prikkel.
It’s the reason he says, Saturday, he’s taking as many donations that can fit in this trailer to help people impacted by tornadoes more than 300 miles away.
“Based on how much other communities have given to us and our times of need, it only makes sense for me to offer my skills, my resources who have given to us so graciously in the past,” said Prikkel.
Prikkel says he’ll be accepting donations for tornado victims until Friday night. He says you can drop them off at his shop on 55 Catherine St. in Dayton.
